Dear Fellow Myconauts,

We are excited to be screening a special sneak peak of the new and upcoming From Soil To Soul – a documentary series exploring the journey to restore food sovereignty through stories of BIPOC farmers, thought leaders, regenerative practitioners, and food activists.
PS – We are continuing our meaningful and profound discussions of Braiding Sweetgrass next month, exploring how we can work with our gifts to live in better relationship with fungi. Pease join us if you haven’t yet had a chance to!

Conjuring Fungi in Soil with Lynn Fang
Monday, September 9th, 7pm @ Arlington Garden, Pasadena, CA – Free by donation
Come learn from SoilWise community soil scientist Lynn Fang, MS, about the important role fungi play in building healthy soils! We will cover decomposer and mycorrhizal fungi, their role in building healthy soil structure, soil C sequestration, water and nutrient transport, native vs. introduced fungi, and ways to cultivate, encourage, and conjure more fungi in your soil. We will introduce ways to make high fungal compost, and demonstrate the Microbiometer tool for assessing F:B ratio, as well as showcase fungi under the microscope.
Before our discussion, we invite you to:
Bring your questions about the fungi who live in the soil, community soil science, and gardening!! We will have a Q&A portion of the discussion after Lynn's presentation.
Check out the event page for more about Lynn & her soil consulting practice SoilWise.
Braiding Sweetgrass: Becoming Naturalized to Place
Monday, October 7th, 7pm @ Arlington Garden, Pasadena, CA – Free by donation
Gosh, we love this book. Come along to join in on the discussion.
Our focus of discussion will be on the section Becoming Indigenous to Place, a concept she later revised in an interview with Björk to say she prefers to use the botany term naturalized instead of indigenous to more accurately describe what she means by this concept of becoming in better relationship with the land.
Spores Round Up – A Few Things That Caught My Attention This Week
The co-founder shares the story of the meteoric rise and fall of Smallhold – the American mushroom farm that made gourmet specialty mushrooms – oysters, lion’s mane, etc – “a thing.” An interesting parable of venture capitalism and regenerative agriculture.
An international Fungal Conservation Tracker hosted by the Fungi Foundation was announced
Impressed by the social media content generated for this Coastal and Marin Mycology class
Spread the spores,
