Dear Fellow Myconauts,
Welcome to our mushroom season! I am excited to share I will be holding a mushroom walk this weekend!
Befriending Fungi – A Mushroom Walk with Aaron on Saturday, February 15th at 12:00p in the area of Sunland-Tujunga Montrose-La Crescenta. Note this is a new location to previous years, where I typically have held my walks in Pasadena but have been affected by the fires.
The photo above was taken after my first mushroom walk of the season with the native plant enthusiasts from the Theodore Payne Foundation. I feel like we were all glowing filled with joy and delight afterwards. It was a beautiful thing to witness, as some of the folks on the walk were directly affected by the fires and were searching for community during these challenging times.
More upcoming walks and talks:
February 15th - Descanso Gardens Mushroom Walk (Update – Sold Out)
March 22nd - King’s Roost How to Love a Mushroom & The Arts of Noticing Fungi
Split Gill - Schizophyllum commune (my non-binary iconic wonder, looking fabulous after the rains)
Previously in the Mycoverse…
Join us next time for a special surprise screening at the second session of the fungi film fest on February 24th, 7p, at Arlington Garden in Pasadena.
One of our favorite highlights from this year’s fest was the National Geographic documentary on SPUN & the Fungi Foundation – Flore, Fauna, Funga. You can watch here.
Exploring the Mycoverse: 2024 Fungi Film Fest Screening Party (Session B)
Monday, February 24th, 7pm @ Arlington Garden, Pasadena, CA – Free by donation
Join the Mycoverse in celebrating and watching for the third year in a row the Fungi Film Fest! It is the world’s only film festival dedicated to the beauty, otherworldiness, and human influences of mushrooms, lichens, and micro fungi. This year, the fest is large enough to split the 200+ minute program into two sessions for us to screen – session A was on February 10th and session B on February 24th. No worries if you missed session A, you can watch them in any order.
Session A is February 10th, 7p, donation-based, Arlington Garden Pasadena, California (note this was rescheduled from January due to the fires).
Before our screening, we invite you to bring a memorable mushroom / fungal encounter of 2024 to share with others before the screening!
Save the date for Wednesday, March 26th at 7p! We have a surprise guest!
Spores That Caught Our Attention
